Finally, the MAP is being burned! (Tom starts humming the Bonanza theme.) In a CNN article today, it was noted that music CD prices may finally start to drop. (US music distributors put a Minimum Advertised Pricing scheme on CDs, forcing retail prices to stay high over the last decade. After being challenged in the courts, some music stores are finally starting to drop prices.) Mind you, I wish they'd picked better music to start off with... but oh well. :)
I went to see my mom in Colorado over Thanksgiving. It saddens me how heavy my family is. My mom's gained weight, my aunt has, even my dog has. The eating practices were dumfounding. (Eating a quarter of a pie with two large scoops of ice cream at midnight just can't be good for you.) They wonder why they're in such poor health and can't walk anywhere.
I don't understand the mentality behind the 'blood is thicker than water' saying. Sure, if I know a person, I'm more likely to help them out than a stranger, but what does being 'family' have to do with it? Just because my ancestors had common sexual partners with another person's ancestors doesn't mean anything to me about how I should get along with them. If my best friend and my 2nd cousin are both needing the same resources that I have, I am more likely to give to my friend. Some people can't understand that I feel this way. I don't care that Clinton had sex with X and I don't care that my grandfather had sex with your grandmother. Multiple times. Unprotected. Probably missionary position.
Anyways, everyone seemed to enjoy my cooking. I made sweet and sour rice with hot and sour egg-drop soup for Thanksgiving dinner. Unfortunately, while I was making some of the Elmers' tomato gravy for breakfast on Friday, I sliced my finger on a can of tomatoes. It sliced all the way down to the muscle and bled profusely, but I knew it would heal fine, so I didn't let anyone open it up to look at it or they would freak out. It's doing fine now, I've taken the steri-strips off now when I'm not exercising or doing other manually intensive chores.
I reread Eon by Greg Bear while I was traveling to Colorado. (After Ralph Nader ran for president, I had to reread it. One of the factions of humans calls themselves the 'Naderites'.) Anyways, I didn't realize until this time that the story starts on Christmas eve of this year. I'm feeling like a little Christmas hoax... be warned :).
